The Ultimate Biking Experience
As you probably know, the bicycle is the most energy efficient mode of transport on the planet - and the recumbent is the most energy efficient design of bicycle - ever!
Because of the laid-back, low centre of gravity riding position a recumbent bike design is a cycling experience un-paralleled for comfort, effciency and performance.
We supply recumbent commuter and recreational bicycles and tricycles direct to the customer
By reclining 'in' a padded seat rather than sitting 'on' a small saddle the TW-TRIKE-I, PB-168-II and PB-933 recumbent cycles are more comfortable than their traditional 'upright' cousins. Over long and short journeys this position can reduce the incidence of neck, back and wrist strain as well as giving the rider a much better aerodynamic profile. Recumbent's are at least 30% more aerodynamically efficient than diamond framed models, and as a consequence they hold all the major human powered two wheeled speed and distance records. And besides all that, they're great fun to ride too!
History of the Recumbent bicycle
With their hi-tech looks and reputation as an 'alternative lifestyle' accessory you may be surprised to find out that the recumbent bicycle has been around for a quite a long time.
They first became popular during the cycling boom at the end of the 19th century, when the whole of Europe was taken by a sudden surge of interest in cycling and the freedom and mobility it represented. By 1914 the French manufacturing giant Peugeot was mass-producing a very successful recumbent, and by the inter-war years of the 1920's and 30's the acclaimed French cyclist Charles Mochet was re-writing all the cycling record books on a recumbent design. However, when fellow countryman Francais Faure set a new record for the hour of 45.065km in 1933 the United Cyclists Internationale (UCI) spitefully banned recumbents from all its sanctioned races - in effect killing off all subsequent development for the next 50 years or so.
